Preventing families from becoming homeless in the first place with Shelter Diversion, Rental Assistance and Transportation programs.
With more than 40% of Americans a $400 expense away from financial distress, the threat of crisis looms closely for too many families. Preventing families from spiraling into homelessness is an essential part of the Family Promise mission.
Affiliates offer a variety of strategies to ensure the people we serve do not fall into the cycle of housing instability that can devastate families and alter the course of children’s lives. These include administering formal diversion programs with government funding, providing rental assistance and landlord mediation, and community-based approaches that keep families housed.
Family Promise of White & Habersham has noted this need in our community and incorporated a new program in 2019 called Project 706. Project 706 is a preventative outreach program that strives to accomplish these prevention goals. It mirrors our traditional homeless intervention program, in that the families who participate, will be afforded the same thorough intensive case management and extensive community-based support that our traditional families receive. The only difference between Project 706 and the traditional intervention program is that the families will remain housed wherever they are; such as motels, with friends & family, in their current apartment or couch surfing. They often receive preventative services to intervene before they become homeless such as landlord mediation or rental assistance. This program is available to both White and Habersham county families.
